Everything you need to know about Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3

Bring the battle to Thanos when Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 hits Nintendo Switch.

Avengers: Endgame may be behind us, but that doesn't mean Marvel fans don't have anything to look forward to. In addition to several new movies on the horizon, there are also some exciting video games in development, including Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order for Nintendo Switch.

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order release date

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order will hit Nintendo Switch on July 19, 2019.

What is Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order?

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order is the third installment in the Marvel: Ultimate Alliance series, and is coming exclusively to the Nintendo Switch. The action role-playing, hack and slash title will serve as a reboot to the franchise.

In the game, your favorite heroes and villains will be forced to unite against Thanos and his Black Order as the Mad Titan attempts to collect the Infinity Stones. Sound familiar? The premise isn't unlike Avengers: Infinity War or Avengers: Endgame, the latter of which ended over ten years of buildup to the Mad Titan.

"Heroes and villains unite in a race across the Marvel Cinematic Universe to find the Infinity Stones before Thanos and The Black Order use them to unleash cosmic chaos," reads the game's official synopsis. "From Avengers Tower to the X-Mansion and beyond, every stop on the dangerous quest to thwart Thanos results in unexpected collisions of fan-favorite characters and iconic locations."

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order gameplay

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order will feature traditional hack and slash gameplay, with each character having standard light and heavy attacks. Each character will also have four unlockable abilities that can be used on the battlefield. Additionally, players will have an ultimate ability to doll out devastating damage.

There are also team attacks that can be combined for more punishment. For example, Storm can create a tornado that Star-Lord can then charge with elemental energy. The resulting attack will cause much more damage than it would on its own.

There's also a basic leveling system, with four powers for each character that can grow stronger as the game progresses. Players can also equip ISO-8 pieces, which is essentially gear that provides characters with stat buffs, like extra energy.

An easy way to level up a character will be through a mode called Infinity Trials, which provide twists and variations on traditional battles. If you accomplish a particular objective—like survive a wave of enemies or complete an objective before time runs out—you'll earn a reward.

New to the series is a "Heroic Camera" perspective, which promises to provide players with a more immersive experience, whether in single-player or multiplayer. Rather than a bird's eye view of the action, Heroic Camera gets closer to the action.

Speaking of multiplayer, players can team up with up to three friends either online or via local wireless. Four players can also team up on a single system, with a drop-in/drop-out approach so it's easy to pick up and play at anytime.
